Upper Galveston Bay, the Houston Ship Channel and the broader estuary have different consumption guidance.
Houston Ship Channel & San Jacinto River
North of the Fred Hartman Bridge, including contiguous waters and the San Jacinto River below Lake Houston Dam: DSHS advises everyone not to eat any fish or blue crab.
DSHS modified Advisory 55 ↗Exact area map ↗Upper Galveston Bay
North of the Red Bluff Point–Five-Mile Cut Marker–Houston Point line: women of childbearing age and children under 12 should not eat catfish, spotted seatrout or blue crab. Adult men and women past childbearing age are limited to one meal per month. The stricter Ship Channel guidance applies within its area.
