Black Crappie
Pomoxis nigromaculatus
For white and black crappie, minimum length limit = 10 inches. Daily bag limit = 25 in any combination.

Identify your catch
Irregular dark speckling and usually seven or eight dorsal spines distinguish black crappie from white crappie.
Habitat on Tradinghouse Creek
Bulrush, cattails, riprap and submerged vegetation provide cover; artificial habitat structures supplement natural shoreline habitat.
Fishing approach
Lake guide guidance: TPWD describes spinnerbaits, worms and jigs near vegetation, crankbaits at dam riprap, cut shad for channel catfish, and minnows around crappie brush.
Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.
No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.
Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
General species guide
Uses lakes, ponds and slow water, often near submerged cover.
