Bluegill
Lepomis macrochirus
No minimum length limit or daily bag limit for sunfish.
Identify your catch
Deep body, small mouth and a dark ear flap.
Habitat on Sweetwater
Bulrush and pondweed occur when water levels support them. TPWD documents a history of drought and golden-alga impacts.
Fishing approach
Lake guide guidance: No lake-specific tactics are supplied in the current guide. The 2022 survey reports low catches for several sport fishes; those observations describe that survey period.
Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.
No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.
Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
General species guide
Common in ponds, lakes and slow streams, especially around shoreline cover.
