Smallmouth Buffalo · Identification features below.

Identify your catch

A native sucker with a small, downward-facing mouth; it is not a carp.

Habitat on Richland-Chambers

Pondweed, water stargrass and scattered hydrilla occur in creek arms. The submerged Trinity River levee adds offshore structure.

Fishing approach

Lake guide guidance: TPWD describes spoons or deep crankbaits near bass structure, jigs or minnows near crappie timber and bridges, and cut or prepared baits for catfish. Watch for schooling white and hybrid bass between US 287 and the dam.

Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.

Eating guidance · Smallmouth Buffalo
