Black Crappie
Pomoxis nigromaculatus
For white and black crappie, their hybrids and subspecies, minimum length limit = 10 inches. Daily bag limit = 25 in any combination.
Gear restriction: Fishing is by pole and line only. Anglers may use no more than two poles while fishing.

Identify your catch
Irregular dark speckling and usually seven or eight dorsal spines distinguish black crappie from white crappie.
Habitat on Mineral Wells
Brush structures near piers, dam brush, shoreline plants, boulders and upper-lake timber provide cover.
Fishing approach
Lake guide guidance: Try spinnerbaits near shoreline plants in spring, then worms or crankbaits later. Crappie use winter cover and spring shallows; jigs and minnows are suggested.
Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.
No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.
Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
General species guide
Uses lakes, ponds and slow water, often near submerged cover.
