Identify your catch

Irregular dark speckling and usually seven or eight dorsal spines distinguish black crappie from white crappie.

Habitat on Limestone

Flooded trees, shoreline plants, docks and installed fish reefs provide varied cover.

Fishing approach

Lake guide guidance: Spring bass use warmer protected creeks; later fish points beside deep water. Minnows or small jigs suit crappie, while white bass move into the Navasota River to spawn.

Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.

Eating guidance · Black Crappie

No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.

Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.

General species guide

Uses lakes, ponds and slow water, often near submerged cover.
