White Crappie
Pomoxis annularis
For white and black crappie, minimum length limit = 10 inches. Daily bag limit = 25 in any combination.
Identify your catch
Dark markings form vertical bars; usually six dorsal spines.
Habitat on Halbert
Turbid water limits submerged plants. Railroad riprap and pier timbers provide much of the structure.
Fishing approach
Lake guide guidance: TPWD identifies live bait along the railroad trestle for flathead catfish and crappie, with additional crappie cover at pier timbers along the dam.
Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.
No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.
Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
General species guide
Lives in lakes and slow rivers; small fish and aquatic invertebrates form its diet.
