Black Crappie
Pomoxis nigromaculatus
For white and black crappie, their hybrids and subspecies, minimum length limit = 10 inches. Daily bag limit = 25 in any combination.
Gear restriction: Use of juglines, throwlines, and trotlines is prohibited.

Identify your catch
Irregular dark speckling and usually seven or eight dorsal spines distinguish black crappie from white crappie.
Habitat on Davy Crockett
Submerged plants, shoreline willow, cattails and bulrushes, small coves, an island and dam riprap provide cover.
Fishing approach
Lake guide guidance: TPWD lists low-light bass topwaters, plastics later in the day, crappie jigs or minnows near cattails, and worms for bluegill.
Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.
No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.
Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
General species guide
Uses lakes, ponds and slow water, often near submerged cover.
