Identify your catch

Irregular dark speckling and usually seven or eight dorsal spines distinguish black crappie from white crappie.

Habitat on Choke Canyon

Rocky banks, flooded timber, brushy flats, creek channels, submerged vegetation, islands and roadbeds provide varied habitat.

Fishing approach

Lake guide guidance: TPWD lists spring bass lures around cover, low-light topwater presentations and plastics or jigs in shaded vegetation.

Fishing guidance describes documented approaches, not a promise of fish activity today.

Eating guidance · Black Crappie

No active lake-specific advisory or possession ban was named in the reviewed DSHS directory. This does not guarantee that fish are safe to eat.

Harvest permission and eating restrictions are separate.
